According to a May 2008 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean hourly wage of a sales manager was $53.70, and the mean annual wage was $110,390. Annual wages ranged from $41,320 to $119,220 annually.


Industries with Highest Level of Employment


According to a May 2008 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, most sales managers worked within management of companies and enterprises, with an estimated 96,480 earning a mean wage of $117,430. Other industries that have high levels of employment for sales managers are automobile dealers; wholesale electronic markets and agents and brokers, department stores and professional and commercial equipment and supplies merchant wholesalers.


Top Paying Industries


According to a May 2008 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, sales managers receive the highest pay from other investment pools and funds, with a national mean wage of $156,370. Sales managers also receive high pay in the following industries: financial investment activities, securities and commodity contracts, intermediation and brokerage, scientific research and development services and seafood product preparation and packaging.


States with Highest Employment Concentration


According to a May 2008 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Connecticut has the highest concentration of sales managers with 7,080 employed who earn about $115,860 annually. Other states with a high concentration of sales managers are California, Georgia, New Jersey and Arizona.


Top Paying States


According to a May 2008 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the top paying state for sales managers is New York, where companies employ 15,910 sales managers who have an annual mean wage of $153,470. Other top paying states are Massachusetts, Florida, New Jersey and Washington.
