Interview for a Banking Job
Going to a job interview can make you feel anxious or exhilarated and everything in between. The better prepared you are, the more relaxed you will be and the easier it will be to get through. If you are interviewing for a banking job, being prepared means more than just arriving on time with a copy of your resume in hand.
Instructions
1. Take time to research background information on the bank you are going to interview with. The information will help you know if you even want to work for the company, and it will impress the hiring manager during the interview. When you come to a meeting prepared, you're demonstrating that you are detail oriented and organized which are important attributes in banking employees.
2. Ensure you will be able to arrive a few minutes early by checking out the location of the interview ahead of time. Whether you actually drive to it or get an on-line map with driving directions, make sure you know where you're going and where to park. Arriving a few minutes early shows you are punctual and that you take this job opportunity seriously.
3. Dress for success. Even if your interview is in a department of the bank that has no public contact and allows casual attire you should dress professionally. As the old saying goes, "when you look good you feel good and when you feel good you do good."
4. Know the information on your resume inside and out so that you can answer questions quickly and accurately. Be prepared to elaborate during the interview by giving examples of your accomplishments and successes at previous jobs. If you have no prior experience in the banking industry, give thought to how you can present your skills so that they appear similar to the skills required of this job.
5. Ask for a business card from anyone involved in your interview. Then as soon as it's over send them a note thanking them for their time and telling them you hope to hear from them soon. They are probably going to interview numerous people for the position and this will help keep your name in front of them so they remember you.
