Make a memorable gift for your mother's birthday.
Selecting an inexpensive birthday gift for your mom when you're on a budget can be challenging. However, some cheap gifts can mean more to your mother than gifts that will cost you a life savings. A quick trip to your local retail and craft store, and your imagination is all you need to create a memorable, inexpensive gift for your mother on her birthday.
Homemade Card
Start by making your mother a homemade birthday card, rather than buy a pre-made card. A homemade card comes more from the heart and shows your mother you took the time, effort and creativity to make her a card. Fold a piece of plain white paper or cardstock in half and decorate it however you'd like.
Pictures
Pictures of your family and kids are a perfect gift for any mother. Many retail stores offer inexpensive portrait packages, but don't buy extra sheets of portraits because that is what will cost you. You can also take pictures and have them printed for little to nothing or print them on your home printer. Put the pictures in a stack and wrap with a ribbon or make a photo collage. Purchase an inexpensive large poster frame and fill it with various pictures of you and your family.
Cookies
If your mom likes sweets, make her some cookies as a gift. Make her favorite cookies and put them in a plastic tub, and tie with a ribbon. Use an icing pen to write "Happy Birthday Mom" on the cookies. You can also make her a cookie bouquet using the cookies with a wicker basket, skewers and a polystyrene foam piece. Place the foam piece in the bottom of the wicker basket and place the cookies on the skewer. Stick the skewers in the foam piece so the cookies stick in the air like a flower bouquet.
Chores
Help your mom with chores around her house for her birthday. Spend the day doing her laundry, cleaning her house, making her dinner and washing her car. These things won't cost you any money, but will mean the world to your mom. You could even have your dad take your mom away for the weekend and do these nice things while she is away. This will make a nice surprise when she comes home from out of town.
ABC Book
Create an ABC book for your mom with paper, a pen and your thoughts. Make a book by stapling several pieces of paper down the middle and folding in half. Write "ABC Book," on the front page. On each page write, "A," "B," "C" and "D" throughout the book. For each letter write a memory or something your mom has done that you appreciate.
