Flowers For Fundraising

If you are looking for a way to raise funds for a charity, school or other organization, you may want to consider selling flowers. Whether it be fresh-cut flowers, bulbs or seeds, flowers as fundraising tools can be very successful. It's especially effective when you use the right flowers during the right time of year. Does this Spark an idea?

Roses

If you're fundraising around Valentine's Day, selling roses to raise money can be a winning idea. Valentine's Day is one of the biggest days of the year for giving flowers, and roses are the most popular choice. Don't limit yourself only to red roses, though, as many people like to give friends and family members yellow, white or pink roses. You can offer a choice between single roses or bouquets.

Spring Flower Bulbs

Spring is the time for planting and one fundraising idea is to sell flower bulbs or seeds. Your customers can donate to your cause and enjoy their own spring flower garden. Popular fundraising bulbs include orchids, gladiolus, lilies and begonias. Alternatively, consider selling packets of seeds like sunflowers, marigolds or daisies.

Carnations

The month of May provides another holiday when flowers are a popular gift: Mother's Day. A classic flower to give Mom is the carnation. Although carnations are by no means the only flower given to moms on Mother's Day, there is a traditional association between mothers and carnations, according to The Flower Expert website. The most popular carnation is white, but the flowers can also come in colors like red, pink, yellow and orange.

Fall Flowers

Invite your customers to plant fall flowers by fundraising with fall bulbs or seeds. In many climates, certain flowers can be planted in the fall and will thrive during cool days and cold nights. The LSU Ag Center suggests such cool-season plants as petunias, snapdragons and poppies.

Poinsettias

Wintertime fundraisers are the time for Christmas flowers. Despite the urban legend, poinsettias are not poisonous according to the University of Illinois, and $220 million worth of them are sold during the Christmas season. Poinsettias are the most popular Christmas plant, but keep in mind that most of them are sold in the six weeks prior to the holiday.
