The Way To Be A Good Salesman

Getting the sale requires many elements that must come naturally. Whether we are selling cars or real estate, the needs of the customer must come first. In order to sell successfully, a salesman must know his product and understand what the potential clients need. If those two match up, a good salesman will close the deal and feel good about the transaction. If there is a mismatch, it is better for both of you to part ways, as the outcome may not be favorable.

Instructions

1. Learn your product inside and out, as product knowledge is one way to be a good salesperson. Learn its possible benefits as well as its limitations. Quickly recall the benefits for a particular need, which will vary from person to person when you sell a product or service as you are filling a need. Take training courses on the product and listen to more-experienced salespeople sell the product whenever possible.

2. Listen to your potential customer, as active listening is an important skill that must be learned by all salespeople to succeed. Identify the needs of the client through active listening, which will help you process that information to present the solution to his problem that is offered in your product. Use active listening in your favor, as the customer will give you the information you will need to sell your product or service.

3. Practice your sales pitch. Work on the weak points of your pitch, and try your best to enunciate well and speak confidently and slowly. Try your pitch on a friend and ask for an honest critique, including the bad and good elements. Focusing on only one or the other can set you back in your quest for successful sales. Record your pitch, and watch it over and over to spot your strengths and weaknesses.

4. Practice overcoming objections. Most people do not want to be sold on a product and they will resist even if they need to buy the product or service. Turn any objections that they may have into positives for your product. Be honest, and if their objection is valid, acknowledge it and try to find a way to make it a positive.

5. Be professional in your mannerisms. Look your potential customer in the eye and always be honest. Politely thank them for their time, and move on if your product will not fill any needs for them. Ask them for the sale at the end of your pitch if you both agree that the product will fill a need of theirs. It is your job to explain to them why your product or service is one they need using their information and your product knowledge.
