Gift Ideas For Boys Under $5

Gift Ideas for Boys Under $5

So, the budget is slim but you are expected to show up with a present for the boy who has everything. With a $5 budget, finding a great gift might be tricky but not impossible. Though young boys are often glued to an expensive technological gadget, many still appreciate smaller, simpler toys to play with outside or games to play with friends.

Candy Tin

Ask his parents what his favorite candy is and buy a bag of it. Go to the dollar store and buy a tin in which to place the candy. If he is young, adorn it with stickers of his favorite cartoon characters. Or, create a 3D action scene on top of the tin by super-gluing tanks and army men on top of the lid.

Poker Set

For older boys in their teens, get a poker set. Two decks of cards can cost $2, and poker chips online will only cost $1 to $3. For an added touch, type the poker rules on a sheet of paper and print it on fancy paper.

Movies

Look for bargain videos in places like used bookstores, Blockbuster and WalMart. These places have a selection of DVDs for roughly $5. This stack will have videos that might be a few years old, but still appealing for boys. Look for Pixar movies (creator of Toy Story, Up and Monsters Inc.) or action movies since little boys enjoy them.

Cards

Find cards based on his interest. For example, if he likes sports, get various baseball and football cards, or add to his Pokemon card collection. "Magic the Gathering" is an older, yet still popular card game. Uno, a well-known card game, is a game he can play with a sibling or for family game night.

Toy Cars

Despite the advent of so many technological toys, somehow, pushing a toy car across tile never loses its magic for a little boy. Though most boys would love to play with Matchbox cars, if he is under the age of 4, opt for a larger plastic truck.

Building Blocks

Buy a small Lego set. For $5, he will have sufficient pieces to keep him occupied. As explained in the book, "The Place of Play," building sets like LEGOs offer not only the fun of constructing a building or object, which fine-tune motor skills, but also a finished product with which to play.

If he already owns Legos and other building materials, this gift will enhance his collection. Look online for used Legos and place them in a decorative container.
