Time Warner Cable Grants

Time Warner Cable offers grants for science, technology, engineering and math education.

Grant money can play an important role in helping a non-profit organization achieve its goals. Time Warner Cable offers grants to organizations that educate students in science, technology, engineering and math through its Connect a Million Minds (CAMM) program. Organizations that align with the mission and focus of CAMM may qualify for grant money to support their programs. Qualified organizations can request grants through CAMM's web site.

Background

Time Warner Cable established its Connect a Million Minds program in 2009 to focus on helping America's youth develop skills in science, technology, engineering and math -- or STEM. The company had previously provided grants and philanthropic efforts with an emphasis on education, but saw a greater need for STEM-related education. CAMM was launched in conjunction with President Obama's "Educate to Innovate" campaign, which aims to increase student participation in STEM.

Goals

CAMM, which is a five-year program, made a $100 million commitment to provide cash and in-kind donations. It plans to give grants to non-profit organizations that provide students with after-school STEM learning programs. CAMM also provides public service announcements to increase awareness of STEM and involves many Time Warner employees in volunteer opportunities. CAMM is working with two national partners: the Coalition for Science After School and For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.

Eligible Organizations

Organizations that want to apply for grants or other support must be a registered 501(c)3 organization, which is known as a charitable organization. The organization must serve communities in Time Warner's markets and provide after-school STEM learning opportunities to youth. CAMM aims to support eligible programs, such as mentorship programs for STEM-related education and careers, programs at science and technology museums and science fairs.

Ineligible Organizations

Some types of organizations are ineligible for grants or support from the Connect a Million Minds program. Organizations that discriminate based on race, gender, religion or age are ineligible. Programs provided by religious organizations must be non-denominational to be considered. Organizations that are affiliated with political activity or capital campaigns don't qualify for support. Individuals and private foundations also are ineligible.
