Promotional Giveaway Strategy

A promotional giveaway is a way to build up interest in your product. The idea is to give your target consumers a first "taste" of your product to entice them to buy it in the future. The promotional item could be the product itself or an item bearing the product logo. Examine a few of the most important elements of an effective promotional giveaway strategy.

Packaging

Package the product to make it attractive and convenient to potential consumers. When you're giving away items to promote your business, whether it is a t-shirt or a sample of a product you sell, it needs to be compact and contain vivid elements of your advertising message or company branding.

Identify Giveaway Locations

Create a listing of the locations where you're most likely to find members of your target market, as identified in your marketing plan. The goal is to give away as many of the items to individuals who match your target market as possible. For instance, if the product or service you offer is targeted for teenagers, possible locations for distribution might include malls, movie theaters and video arcades.

Employ a Street Team

A street team gives the promotional items away to people, whether on the street or at indoor industry events. Choose individuals who can identify with your product and who are members of your target market. For instance, if you're giving samples of a new gum out to teenagers, choose teenagers for your street team. Select people who have friendly and upbeat personalities and aren't afraid to communicate with others in a public setting.

Create a Pitch

Even when you're giving away promotional items you have to present the potential customer with a sales pitch. While some people love freebies, others may not want to be burdened with the free item until they learn what it is and how it can help them. Prepare street team members with a one-liner (sometimes called an opening sales statement) to say when passing out the promotional item, along with information about the product or company in case people ask.
