Design A Store Window For Mother'S Day

Design a Store Window for Mother's Day

First impressions can make or break a new relationship. Store windows have the same effect on shoppers. Look beyond the plate-glass window, and what attracts you? The right product mix is all it takes to get you in the door. That's why it makes good sense to pay as much attention to dressing your window as it does to selecting the right merchandise-particularly when Mother's Day rolls around. Today's mom is confident, dynamic and creative. Make sure your window says just that, and you'll grab plenty of business.

Instructions

1. Gain inspiration for your store window year-round by looking at the work of other dressed window displays. Use these concepts to inspire your Mother's Day window, even if the original design was done for Christmas. Find other examples of window design online. Check out the collaboration between Macy's and Martha for ideas you can borrow for your window (link below).

2. Pick one focal point for your window-a theme, color or prop-and decorate your window around it. For moms, a beautiful bathrobe makes a great focal point, and when it's appointed with soaps, creams, chocolates and a bath pillow, the theme of serenity and relaxation will be unmistakable.

3. Install, check and monitor your store's window lighting to make certain everything looks terrific. Try different lighting set-ups to see which works the best: overhead spots, side lighting or back lighting. Try soft pink gels over lights to enhance the femininity of your gift suggestions or go for soothing green if your window is filled with the gardening tools, apron, gloves and sun hat sure to please gardener moms.

4. Aim high when you stack products-but not so high shoppers walk by your dressed window because there's nothing displayed at eye level. Create a Mother's Day tree of jewelry baubles that tops out around three-quarters of the distance from the platform or floor to the ceiling so the eye-catching piece that tops the tree is easy to glimpse.

5. Place mannequins in your window to wear clothing, hold merchandise, point to accessories or showcase markdowns that reflect different ages and ethnicities. Make your store a popular destination for shoppers who love the idea of finding both Mom and Gram's gift at one store that's versatile enough to stock gift ideas for all ages and stages of motherhood.

6. Make certain your "Mother's Day" signs don't cover your merchandise in your eagerness to get the word out about a big clearance sale, the arrival of a brand that's eagerly awaited or informational signs that signal new hours of operation. Get creative; put the signs in the hands of your mannequins to show that mother knows best.

7. Refresh your window as often as time and energy allow. Change out your Mother's Day window within a week after that second Sunday in May and turn your attention to Dad, whose own holiday arrives just six weeks later. Finally, remember mom's admonition to keep those windows sparkling clean.
