Sports Team Fundraising Ideas

Sport team fundraising requires enthusiasm and teamwork

A variety of generic sport team fund raisers can be fun as well as profitable with a bit of preparation and a lot of participation.

Handyman for a Day

Instead of the usual car wash fund raiser, get the team to put that healthy energy to work for a donation doing simple home improvement projects.

Outdoor work could include raking, mowing, weeding, spreading bark or fertilizer and, yes, car washing. Indoor jobs could include cleaning, painting, organizing, window washing or any other task that includes minimal knowledge and lots of elbow grease.

Discuss guidelines and limitations based on the general consensus of each team member to avoid the risk of players being over worked.

Food Event

Everyone loves hotdogs!

On campus, hold a special food event during the school's lunch hours. If it is not a school formed team, find a large store that will allow you to set up a small booth near their entrance.

It could be as complex as offering grilled hot dogs with unique toppings or as simple as popcorn in a bag. The Girl Scouts have taken advantage of this simple selling method for years, at great profit.

Raffle or Auction

Approach a strong sponsor to provide valuable items to raffle or auction off. Raffle tickets can be purchased at an office supply store at minimal expense. An auction will take a bit more preparation but can be extremely profitable.

The best auctions provide an easy dinner (made and served by team players) such as a spaghetti plate or chili bowls. The auction can be silent but for more action, run it with a caller and bidding cards.

Create a Carnival

Though a carnival demands labor intensive preparations, the return on that investment can be well worth the effort, especially if the carnival is held on a school grounds and is supported by attending students and their families.

Simple game booths can be easily created with wood 2x4 frames and cardboard or fabric draped over long tables. Include a bake sale or food event and the potential for profit is well worth the effort.

Gather Pledges

Decide on an event that encourages a pledge. It could be a 24 hour hoop shoot or any endurance activity specifically designed around the team's sport and talent.

Success with this form of activity will include significant amounts of enthusiasm and salesmanship from team players to create interest and get pledges. The more unique the activity, the greater the pledged interest from individuals, community or students.
