Innovative Promotion Ideas

Sales and deals are a great way to draw customers to your business.

Promotional marketing is a business marketing strategy that provides incentives for customers to buy your product or service. Examples of promotional marketing include contests, coupons, samples and loyalty programs. Rather than relying on the same old traditional marketing mediums, experiment with several unique, innovative promotion ideas to help jump-start your business.

E-newsletter Coupons

Although traditionally companies have advertised their products and services in print-based publications such as magazines and newspapers, a more innovative approach you can try is using e-newsletters to promote your business. Search online for popular e-newsletters that offer advertising space and are related to your product or service. For example, a pharmaceutical marketer could purchase ad space in the "Pharmaceutical Marketing Newsletter." Once you find an e-newsletter you want to advertise in, develop an ad that contains an offer or coupon for your product. For example, if you sell dietary supplements, you could create a 20 percent off coupon to place in the newsletter.

Free Promotional DVD

People like getting things for free, so another innovative promotion idea is to give away a CD or DVD on your website for free. Develop a DVD that contains a combination of relevant content and promotional material. For example, if you sell exercise equipment, offer a free DVD that shows customers doing different workouts using your equipment. At the end of the DVD, offer viewers a special deal or discount to entice them to buy from you. Another added benefit of this promotional idea is that it's a great way to gather email addresses for an email marketing campaign. For example, "Sign up for our email newsletter and get this FREE DVD."

Facebook Fan Contest

Using social media websites such as Facebook is a relatively new and innovative way to promote your company. If you haven't created a "fan" page on Facebook, start by doing that. Then, create a promotion where every person who becomes a "fan" of your Facebook page gets entered into a contest to win a prize that is relevant to your company. For example, if your business sells outdoor gear, you could offer a prize with a camping, biking or mountain climbing equipment package. This promotional idea is a great way to increase exposure for your business significantly in a short amount of time.

Affiliate Promotions

Affiliate marketing is a promotional strategy in which you reward customers for bringing in new business. For example, if you sell a line of e-books on your website, you can develop an affiliate program that allows your customers to make a certain percentage for every sale they help you make. Although you give up some of your profit, your customer is essentially doing all the selling for you, making this a unique and time-saving promotional strategy.
