In some cases, retail sales reps may earn commission in addition to their base salary.

Supervisors of sports merchandising retail sales reps stand to earn higher salaries as result of their increased responsibilities, which may include deciding upon the types of sports apparel and equipment to be ordered and carried in a store. As such, the Bureau of Labor Statistics lists the average salary of retail supervisors at $35,310 as of 2008, with the highest 10 percent having earned more than $61,970 per year. As it relates to clothing stores specifically, the average annual salary of supervisors was $34,180 as of 2008.


Branding Positions


Creating sports products for professional teams and players can be a lucrative field. Commonly known as sports branding, this career involves designing jerseys, hats and shoes. Those in this career may also work with professional sports teams to coordinate marketing and advertising campaigns. The Job Descriptions website, citing 2009 figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, lists the annual average salary of brand marketing managers at $120,070 as of 2009, with the highest 10 percent having earned more than $166,400 per year.


Marketing and Promotions


Marketing and promotions directors for sports teams have the responsibility of creating ways to market teams via merchandising. As such, they frequently work with branding companies. The Bureau of Labor Statistics lists the average annual salary of advertising and promotions managers at $80,220 as of 2008. The average annual salary for marketing managers was $108.570 as of 2008. Marketing managers working for companies and enterprises earned higher salaries, at $115,650 per year, as of 2008.
