Direct Marketing
You have a new product, something you either developed yourself or bought wholesale to resell, and it's time to reach out to potential buyers. Be creative at how you spread the word and you'll increase sales as well as profits. A simple ad here and there isn't enough to launch a new product into the marketplace, but other powerful tools exist that can help you get the job done.
Market Evaluation
Know your customers. Once you identify the target audience for your product, you'll be more successful at reaching those who will benefit the most from what you have to offer. It will also help you determine the most suitable promotional method for getting the best results.
Press Release
Your product is newsworthy, so write up a press release that covers the basics about what it is, how it's used, why it's important and how somebody can get one. Send this press release to your local newspaper and all trade publications associated with your product. Be sure to include a photo of your product, preferably showing it in action. Publications will often print press releases for free, or they'll ask for more information to develop a feature story. It's an effective method of free publicity.
Demonstrations
Demonstrating how your product is used will inspire consumers to buy one of their own. There are a variety of methods for presenting your demonstration, such as inside a store where it's sold or inside the home of an interested buyer. You might even host a party and invite prospects to come see your product in action.
County fairs offer a useful platform for product demonstrations. Rent a booth at the fair where you can give out fliers, business cards and brochures. Have specialty items like magnets and pens printed with your contact information to hand out at the end of every demonstration.
Trade show exhibits are another valuable venue for demonstrating your product. Industry and business trade shows take place around the country and around the world all year long. You'll meet retailers looking to stock their shelves with products like yours, or businesses that can put your product to good use.
Direct Marketing
Direct contact with your target audience can give you the edge you need to sell more products. Buy or rent a mailing list using the demographics that suit your market, then mail a series of postcards that ask the recipient to respond. Interested buyers will contact you for more information or to place an order, and you can track their response for future contact. This can effectively be done through email as well.
Social Media
Use free online resources to get your product viewed by potential buyers. Social media like MySpace, FaceBook, twitter.com and blogs create a virtual connection between you and your target audience. Invite virtual buyers to visit your website where they can conveniently place an order.
Use one or all of these methods for creating buzz about your product in the marketplace. The more you do, the more successful you'll be with sales.
