Run A Mechanic Shop

A mechanic shop can be run in different ways depending on the ownership. It is easier to run a sole proprietor mechanic shop than it is to run a partnership. A sole proprietorship mechanic shop has a simple organizational structure. The sole proprietor has full control of all the affairs of the business such as money and employees. There is a direct link between the sole proprietor and the customer. The organization structure of a partnership mechanic shop is complex and requires elaborate business strategies to run effectively.

Instructions

1. Lay down the strategic management plan. It should contain long-term and short-term objectives. Clearly define the core values and ethical standards of the mechanic shop. This shows the code of conduct expected of employees and how they should relate with customers. Ethical standards should be posted in a place where they are visible by the customers and employees.

2. Secure a good location and ample space. A mechanic shop needs to be located in a strategic location such as alongside the highway. This will make it easy for the customers to access the shop as well as meet their urgent needs. It should have a large space to accommodate many vehicles and provide room for testing. The location should also make it easy to discard waste from the mechanic shop.

3. Get all the necessary legal documents. You should have a business license and a certificate of operation from the Department of Environment. This exempts the mechanic shop from closure; hence avoiding unnecessary inconveniences.

4. Advertise the mechanic shop. This creates awareness of its existence to the customers. Let the customers know the type and quality of services offered by your mechanic shop. The advertising strategies should be innovative to capture a variety of customers. You can advertise in communal halls, through direct mail, newspapers, word of mouth, through emails and on search engines through Pay-Per-Click advertising if your budget allows.

5. Serve your customers well. Get high quality tools, equipment, and machines and provide a variety of services to meet all the customers' needs. Use polite language when attending to customers and respond to their needs promptly. Ensure you treat all customers equally. Fairness is key. Reward regular customers to maintain them.

6. Hire competent employees. Skilled employees are necessary in order for the mechanic shop to give quality services. Pay the employees fairly and don't exploit them. Reward hard working employees to boost their morale.

7. Manage the business finances prudently. You can do this by maintaining and updating the financial reports on daily, weekly and yearly basis. Spend the profits wisely, mainly by investing them back into the mechanic shop. Have a mechanic shop bank account for financial transactions.

8. Purchase insurance coverage. Insure the mechanic shop against risks such as fire and theft. Also purchase accident insurance for your employees.
