Construction companies can use marketing to get more clients.


According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, construction is one of the largest industries in the United States. The industry employed 7.2 million wage and salary jobs and 1.8 million self-employed workers in 2008. To stand out in an industry of this size, you need to market and promote your construction company to help set your company apart from competitors.


Website


Websites are important marketing tools for construction companies. They can help you communicate the construction services you offer to clients; the benefits your construction company offers compared with your competitors; and important contact information so prospective clients can find you online. It's important to understand there is a difference between features and benefits when writing content for your website. A feature communicates what your company does, such as, "We build residential construction developments." A benefit communicates what your customers get out of these features. A sample would be, "We offer the highest return on investment for residential developers in Michigan."


Social Media Marketing


Social media is a great way for construction companies to spread the word about their business. LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook are three sites you can use to market your construction services. For example, you can use LinkedIn to find other business owners who may be a good fit for your construction services, then send them a personalized message. One sample: "Dear John, I noticed you are a real estate developer and wanted to talk to you about how my company can save you money on commercial construction costs." Or you can create a page on Facebook or Twitter to keep in touch with current and prospective real estate clients.


Trade Association Event Networking


Networking at trade association events can help position your company as an expert in your construction niche. For example, you can join the Building Trades Association, and use the tools on its website to network with others in your industry. You can request a bid for a job, search a jobs bulletin board or search for events in your local area where you can market your construction services to potential clients.


Email Marketing


Email marketing can also be an effective way to promote your construction company. Collect the email addresses of your clients and contacts, and write a monthly newsletter to keep clients up-to-date on market trends, new building products and services and special deals and discounts you are offering on your construction services. Here's a sample of what you could include in your newsletter: "XY Construction has partnered with AB Financial Company to offer no-interest financing on all new construction purchase deals made within the next three weeks. Take advantage of this offer by responding to this email."
