Get Retail Customers

Establish relationships with new customers.

Gaining new retail customers can be difficult. If you offer great savings to new customers, then your regular customers become alienated, but in order to get a flow of new customers, you need to have something to offer. Take some time to talk to your regular customers, find out why they keep coming back and use some of that information in your new customer marketing. Develop a strategy to gain new customers, and you should be seeing increased revenue soon.

Instructions

1. Create a promotional event that will involve discount pricing, special celebrity guests and free giveaways from your vendors. You can call this a grand re-opening event or find some other name to give the event so when you recreate it, you will have a way to refer to it.

2. Arrange your store so that the popular items are at the average eye level and within arm's reach of potential customers. Make sure you put models of your popular items on display, and have helpful sales people stationed throughout the store to answer any questions a customer may have or help a customer get an item to their vehicle. Low pricing is an effective draw in retail, but good customer service and consistent low prices will keep customers coming back and bringing friends with them.

3. Develop a budget for advertising your event, at the very least in the newspaper and on the radio. You will reach more people with television advertising, but television advertising is also more expensive. Maximize your marketing budget by creating flyers announcing your event, and then having friends and family help you give out the flyers all over town. Begin your advertising one week before your event will happen.

4. Print up informational flyers that have your store location, your Internet address (if applicable) and any other important contact material that customers would need to know to return to your store. Have referral programs in place that reward customers for bringing new customers to your store. A referral reward could be a $10 gift certificate or something of equal value. Reward your customers for helping you grow your business and they will feel more involved in your success.

5. Create profiles on major social networking websites and begin to promote your upcoming event to the members of those communities.

6. Create a blog that you can promote through your social networking pages that will keep people updated on the coming event and also any other promotions you are working on.

7. Create a store website if you do not already have one and create a mailing list that people can join to stay updated on your pricing specials and other promotions.

8. Repeat your in-store promotional event at least once every six months. Consider a seasonal time frame to weed out inventory while highlighting new product.
