Customize Promotional Products

Use customized promotional products to get your brand out to potential customers.

Customized promotional products are a popular and effective way to get the name of your company and the services you offer out to a variety of people. They can be given away at trade shows, to clients or included as a free gift with products. By customizing the right promotional products, you can indirectly advertise your business to existing customer's friends and coworkers, and keep your company in your existing customer's minds. To customize promotional products you need to think about how your logo will look on those products and which products to give out.

Instructions

The Logo

1. Examine your existing logo to evaluate how it will look on a promotional product. You should consider whether the logo will look good in black and white and whether the fonts will still be readable when shrunk down to any size.

2. Examine the text that accompanies the logo. Most promotional products will not have space for much text and you want to get your message out in as few words as possible. If there is accompanying text, it should explain who you are, what you do and why you are the best at doing it in as few words as possible.

3. Edit the logo using graphic design software. Make a few versions of the logo in black and white, color, extra small and extra large sizes. Save copies of the logo in a number of formats such as JPG, BMP, PNG, TIFF, EPS and WMF. You can do this yourself or you may consider hiring a professional designer.

Choosing the Right Products

4. Look through catalogs of promotional products. You can find many such catalogs on the Internet, and there are sample links provided on this page. A good custom promotional product should be useful to people and if possible suggest the services that you offer. For example, a water bottle may not be the best product for a sewage treatment service but it may be effective for a sporting goods store. A reusable grocery bag may not be an effective way to advertise construction materials but it may be for food-related products or any eco-friendly products. Keep you user in mind as well as where the promotional product is likely to be seen by others.

5. Rate the products according to their usefulness and price. For example, pens are very inexpensive but common and less likely to be remembered, while aluminum water bottles are expensive but more likely to be held onto and used.

6. Request a sample by clicking the "request sample" button on the page of your chosen product. Most suppliers of customized promotional products will send you samples for free. This gives you a chance to evaluate the product's quality, its usefulness in pushing your message and how well your logo will look given the size of the product.

7. Order your promotional products by filling out the order form on the website. Choices when ordering will include the color of the product itself and the the colors used in your logo when printed on the product. You will also need to send your logo to the company via email. If you want to do further testing, order the smallest batch possible and give them out to your own staff. There will likely be a fee for imprinting the logo on the products that is on top of the price of the product itself. If you approve of the test batch, however, the producers will already have your logo on file.
