Advertise Your Website Online For Free

You've created your own website. Now you are wondering let people know about it--without investing a lot of money for advertising. Getting the word out can be done rather effectively with no monetary investment at all. Both online and offline marketing methods are important for spreading the word about your website.

Instructions

1. Begin with word of mouth advertising. Tell your friends and family you have created a website and give them the web address (URL).

2. Include the URL to your website in your email signature. Including a link to your website in your email signature informs all of your contacts that you have a website. It also sends them a gentle reminder to check out your site each time you communicated with them via email.

3. Submit your URL to the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. You need only submit your homepage. Search engines have pieces of software called Spiders that will regularly "crawl" your site and index your pages and posts. This is a great way to get the content that you create out to the world.

4. Submit your URL to free web directories like dmoz.org, somuch.com and linkcentre.com. Web directories will categorize your website with other similar sites. For example, if your website is about art, each time someone clicks the Art category on one of these popular directories, your website is included in that list.

5. Include the URL to your website when you use social networks like Facebook.com, MySpace.com, Twitter.com and LinkedIn.com. Much like email, this informs your friends and contacts that you have a website. Since most social networks have a space to update your status regularly, you can send out an update each time you add new content to your website.

6. Exchange links with others who have similar websites. This means that you list their URL on your website in exchange for listing your URL on their website. By exchanging links, you can share a portion of your website visitors with other webmasters. In turn, you will receive traffic from their site as well.

7. Install a blog on your website and write articles. You can blog at a free service like WordPress.com or Blogger.com and link it to your website. New content such as writing regular blog posts will bring more readers in addition to regular visitors to your website.

8. Submit an advertisement about your website using free web classifieds like Craigslist.org or Kijiji.com. Free classifieds receive millions of visitors everyday. Posting an ad about your website will bring new visitors to your website.
