Toyota directly employed 28,783 people in 2011, with another 163,880 indirect employees working for dealerships and suppliers. Toyota has a Co-op Program for college students who want to get hands-on experience. Participants spend alternate semesters working and going to school, allowing them to gain practical experience and a chance to explore a chosen field of interest. Toyota looks for many different college majors to work in its multiple entry-level training programs. They provide extensive support for new graduates with mentoring programs and customized instruction.
Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or General Business
Toyota's Logistics Trainee (LT) is an 18-month training program for college graduates with degrees in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or General Business. The Logistic Trainee learns increase operational efficiency in stock maintenance, shipping, purchasing and safety among many other things. The Logistics Trainee also works extensively with both customers and employees, so it an ideal position for somebody who enjoys working with a lot of people.
Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or Liberal Arts
The Sales, Management and Service Trainee (MT) is the entry-level program designed to prepare graduates to become a Field Traveler in one of their many offices around the world. The Field Traveler is the liaison between Toyota Motor Sales and up to a dozen Toyota dealerships. This position is open to those with college degrees in business administration, marketing, management, or liberal arts. Liberal arts is an umbrella of many different college majors, such as Spanish, English literature and history.
Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or Mathematics
The Information Systems Trainee (IST) program teaches graduates support the dealerships with information systems. The job is located at Toyota's headquarters in Torrance, California. It is open to college graduates with degrees in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or mathematics. Toyota values these majors because students learn new concepts, apply analytical thinking and prioritize projects. The 24-month program takes students into many different areas of the business including security, project management and networking in voice, data and video platforms.
Automotive Technology, Industrial Management or Automotive Service Management
The Automotive Technology Trainee (ATT) works directly with Toyota's famous product. It consists of four consecutive 6-month training programs in the areas of Product Quality Assurance, Technical and Body Training, Accessory Product Quality Assurance, and Service Technology. You will need a college degree in automotive technology, industrial management or automotive service management to apply for the Automotive Technology Trainee program.
