Children's book displays should capture a child's attention and imagination.
A well-planned book display can be attention-grabbing and result in additional sales for your children's book. A kids' book display should visually appeal to a child, catching her attention and imagination with bright colors and bold titles. A good children's book display relies on properly arranging the books to optimize the covers' art and creatively using a theme to tie the books together.
Books Are Treasures
Emphasize the theme that every book is a treasure. This is a good theme for a library as a way to remind borrowers that the books they take home are valuable and should not be abused. Cover the table in gold paper, and set the books up on book stands at varying heights around the table. Use cardboard and construction paper to make cutouts of treasure chests, which are set in front of the book stands so it looks like the books are coming out of the treasure chest. Cover the table in "gold coins," fake strands of pearls and plastic gemstones.
Hanging
Grab everyone's attention with a different and creative display idea: hanging books. Dedicate a section of the store or library to your hanging book display. Create a sign on the wall that says something like, "Hang around with a good book this summer." Wrap clear plastic zip ties around the books vertically, and string a ribbon or yarn through the top of the zip tie. Tie the ribbon or yarn in a knot, and use a push pin to attach it to the ceiling. You can hang other decorations from the ceiling as well. For instance, if you are using a summer theme, hang little suns, flip flops and sun umbrellas cut from construction paper in between the books.
Common Factor
Create a theme around the common factor of the book display. For instance, if every book has to do with animals, theme your display after a forest filled with animals. Cover the table in green plastic, set up cardboard trees or even use real plants to make the table feel more authentic. Arrange miscellaneous stuffed animals on the table around the books.
Best Sellers
Create a simple display of best-selling books, either present day or from a specific year. Make a poster board that mimics the New York Times Best-Seller's Lists. Or, if you are displaying classic novels that have won awards, paste facts about the books on to pieces of poster board and place them behind the books.
