Promote A Furniture Storage Business

Furniture storage businesses, also called self-storage companies, lease garage units for people to store couches, chairs, dining room sets and other furniture. The units vary in size depending on customers' needs. Some units are even heated. Whatever the case, these businesses need to promote themselves like any other business. Some may receive foot traffic just by having their signs in prominent locations. However, other furniture storage companies are located in more obscure locations. There are several effective ways to promote your furniture storage business.

Instructions

1. Place a large business sign near the street to attract drive-by customers to your furniture storage business. Include your business name, logo and phone number on the sign for easy reference.

2. Create a website for your storage business, or have a web developer create one for you. List all the features and benefits of your company on your website, including sizes, locations and any supplies or services you provide. Write down rodent control, for example, if you provide individual rodent traps outside units. Include the addresses and phone numbers of all locations on your website.

3. Create a flier for your business. List the key features of your units on the flier as well as your hours of operation and website address. Include a special deal for new customers such as 10 percent or 15 percent off the first month's rent. Limit your flier to one page. Make copies of the fliers and distribute them at high traffic areas like shopping malls and grocery store bulletin boards. Upload a copy of the flier on your website.

4. Place a display ad in your local Yellow Pages, as a significant number of people will likely use the Yellow Pages to find furniture storage places. Place your display ad in multiple categories of the Yellow Pages, including "Storage," "Warehouses-Merchandise" or other related headings. Place a listing or ad in the online version of your local Yellow Pages, as some potential customers look you up that way. Include your website in all yellow page ads.

5. Place a classified ad in your local newspaper under "Business Services." Mention that you offer units for storing furniture and other items at your business location. Run the newspaper ads regularly if they consistently generate effective leads.

6. Place some ads on billboards in your area, including those at intersections, on benches and electronic billboards.

7. Place your website address on various major Internet search engines like Yahoo and Google. Feature your address or city so you can attract mainly local customers.

8. Place mobile ads on people's cell phones through companies like Chacha.com, according to Extraspace.com, an online resource for storage business owners. Contact major cell phone providers in your area to advertise through them.

9. Create a referral program for current customers, offering them discounts when they provide names and phone numbers of relatives or friends that may need furniture storage units.
