Strategies For Marketing Success On A New Product

Highway billboards are one way to advertise to many people as they drive by.

When you or your company develops a new product, it is important to launch successful marketing campaigns to raise awareness of the product and drive people to purchase it. Without customers who purchase the product, your company cannot profit from it. There are a variety of different marketing strategies to implement to make your new product profitable.

Target Market

One of the first and most important marketing strategies to implement is to determine your target market for your new product. The reason this is important is because if you advertise to the wrong people, you will not succeed. For example, if you create a new doll, your target market is likely young or teenage girls, and the parents who buy them for their kids. If you advertised in a place where single men mostly see your message, you have missed your market. You can determine your target market using surveys, industry trend reports or simply by your experience with the industry. Factors to determine your target market include sex, age, job, income level, location, education, kids and marital status.

Consumer Behavior

Consumer behavior is another important factor in marketing a new product. Once you know who your target market is, you need to find out how they behave in terms of purchasing and what types of marketing campaigns are most effective. For example, if they typically purchase items online instead of in a store, then you should focus more on online marketing. Companies that launch new software campaigns often focus more on online marketing because their target customer likely purchases and downloads software from a website rather than in a retail store. If you have launched similar products in the past, review how your consumers purchased those products to get a general idea of your existing customer behavior.

Analyze the Competition

Before you launch any campaigns, you want to analyze what competing companies have done to market similar products. Examine what strategies they have launched in the past and how successful they have been. Determine if there have been any strategies that were not yet implemented by any competitors. If your product is totally new and unique, then you have the advantage of being first to market, but you will likely have to go through more trial and error than you would if there have been similar product campaigns before yours. Try several small experiments to learn which work best, then launch larger campaigns based around the successful smaller strategies.

Campaigns

You can implement a variety of different marketing campaigns to get your new product into the hands of consumers. TV and radio advertisements are effective ways to reach a lot of people. So are newspaper, magazine and billboard sign ads. You also can optimize your website to be more search engine friendly so it shows up higher in online searches, as well as pay for online ads on search engines or other websites so more people see your product and click through to your site to make a purchase or learn more. Email marketing is a relatively low-cost marketing strategy that allows you to convey a marketing message to a group of people. Other techniques include games and contests on social media sites that drive people to your business, or viral videos or campaigns that grab people's attention with humor or eccentricity.
