Paint A Window Splash

Ordinary windows are transformed with the addition of a window splash.

Seeing a well-painted window splash as you stroll through a shopping center may cause you to do a double take. Window splashes are commonly found on storefront windows designed to attract potential customers. You can also paint a window splash to commemorate a special event or holiday. Whether you're painting the windows to advertise your business or getting a group of young children together to express themselves on a new medium, proper preparation is key. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose the side of the window on which you'll paint. Window splashes can go on either the outside or inside of a window. When painted from the inside, you'll need to use a reverse painting technique but the design will be more protected from the elements. Paintings on the outside can still last for several months and can be easier to apply if you aren't experienced.

2. Clean the entire surface of the window to ensure the paint makes adequate contact with the glass. Use warm water and dish soap to remove any grease and dirt. Rinse with clean water and let dry before painting.

3. Sketch out your window splash design on paper first. This helps you to visualize the painting and gives you a guide to work from during the process.

4. Paint your design onto the window. If you're painting on the outside of the window, paint the surface using normal methods. If painting from the inside you'll need to paint the items that would normally be painted on last, first.
