Instructions

Test Your Market

1. Sign up with a third-party affiliate manager such as Clickbank, Commission Junction, Share-A-Sale or LinkShare. Each company offers a variety of products. Clickbank offers products mostly in digital format, while the other managers offer primarily physical products.

2. Pick a niche market with low competition. "Niche," by its definition, means "small." Look for a highly targeted market hungry for a niche product. Remember, you're looking for buyers wanting a specific product. Your job as an affiliate marketer is to insert yourself between the buyer and the product she wants and become the intermediary to her purchase. The consumer does not pay any additional cost for this service. This is what creates the commission for you. Commissions can be as high as 50 to 75 percent on digital products and up to 15 percent on physical products. Locate a hungry market by visiting a website such as Amazon.com and review the products that sell the best. Amazon.com lists its products in the order they sell. Review what people buy, that is a "hungry" market. Review magazines -- each magazine caters to a market and inside is advertising to the niches within that market.

3. Research the keywords the buyers use to find their product. Use a variety of free products online to search keywords. Google external keyword tool, Wordtracker or Steam's keyword tool are three such places to hunt for the traffic and the most used keywords.

4. Select a broad keyword and narrow down the search. Use specific words such as "cure," "buy," "purchase," "how to" and "resolve" in combination with your keyword.

5. Create a free website with a service such as Squidoo, HubPages or Weebly to set up a place to test your choice of market and product. Write a product review or alternatively, write about the benefits or the features of your chosen product.

6. Include affiliate links on the free website that link to the product's sales page. This will allow you to make sales from the free website.

7. Write at least five articles with five different related keywords in the title that link back to your free website. Submit the articles to directories with high page rank. Create the articles with the keyword in mind while writing to the pain or pleasure aspects of your clients in relation to their problem that ideally, the product solves. Another type of article to write entails writing about the features or the benefits of the product you promote. The idea is to generate enough interest so the reader clicks through to your site to purchase the product. The articles that do the best are conversational in nature and often start with a story with which people relate.

8. Submit your articles and the websites to real simple syndication feed websites to create backlinks. Submit bookmarks to your favorite bookmark sites. Set up a Facebook page and provide updates. RSS feed engines include Feedburner, FeedFairy, Feedzilla and more.

Set Up Your Own Website

9. Complete the testing and select a keyword that offered the most returns on your affiliate product. Purchase a domain name for about $13, at the time of publication, for top-level domains, such as .com, .org or .net with the successful keyword in the title. While you generate money from the free website, you are limited to the restrictions and regulations posted by the owners of the overall website. When you purchase your own domain, you are only limited by your own creativity and ideas.

10. Obtain inexpensive Web hosting for approximately $4 per month, at the time of publication, that includes a free content management system in the hosting plan.

11. Set up the domain at the hosting service. Install the content management system.

12. Select a website theme and edit your content on the website, add an "About" page, privacy policies, terms and conditions and the appropriate FCC disclaimers, which must include that you are an affiliate for the products found on your website. Include keyword-rich articles based upon your earlier searches. These articles must be original content separate from content created earlier. Duplicating content is fine, but it would not engender the search engine rankings you desire because it is not original content. Original keyword rich content receives an individual ranking with the search engines, duplicate content only receives one ranking, usually to the site with the highest page rank.

13. Monetize your site by signing up for an advertising program to gather advertising revenue while offering information about the product on your website. Create links back to your site through comments made on blogs, articles submitted to article directories, RSS feeds and syndication of articles to other's websites. Monetizing your site allows you to make money from ad placement and clickthroughs as well as making money from products purchased directly from your own product links.
