What Makes A Preschool Room Inviting

Make your preschool room comfortable to encourage children to want to come back.

At the beginning of every school year, teachers work hard decorating and making a classroom look warm and inviting to new students. Preschool teachers need to make the room comfortable enough for the students to want to come and stay every day and as well as making the parents feel comfortable leaving their children behind. Preschool rooms should be designed and decorated for children 3 to 5 years old.

Carpet

Make sure to have a clean and colorful carpet because children love to play and crawl around on the floor. The carpeted area is also a great place to have circle or story time. Some carpets can be found with shapes, animals, letter, numbers and other educational materials that you can use to teach students throughout the day.

Set Up

Set up your room so that children feel welcome to play and participate in various areas and stations. Try to keep similar activities close together. For example, reading, computer and quiet work can be on one side of the room; loud toys, music and hands-on activities can be on the other side. Encourage children to play in smaller groups by dividing the room with small bookcases or tables.

Decorations

Paint the room in a neutral or pastel color and accent it with brightly colored artwork, borders, fabric and furniture. Show your students just how much you love the work they do by hanging up artwork and projects completed as a group. You might also want to hang up photos to give your students something to show mom and dad during pick-up time.

Plenty to Do

Make it look like there will be plenty of fun and exciting things to do throughout the day. When students arrive, have the supplies for everything you will be doing set up and waiting for everyone to arrive. Also have lots of toys, such as tools, blocks and kitchen accessories, on hand to keep your students busy.
